吡啶功能化聚醚醚酮阴离子交换膜的制备及其钒流电池性能研究

摘 要: 以3,3’,5,5’-四甲基-4,4’-联苯二酚为结构单元合成含有甲基取代基的聚醚醚酮聚合物,聚醚醚酮经N-溴代丁二酰亚胺(NBS)溴甲基化及吡啶功能化成功制备出吡啶功能化聚醚醚酮阴离子交换膜(Py-PEEK膜)。用傅里叶变换红外光谱(Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,FTIR)、核磁共振氢谱(1H NMR)和热重分析(thermogravimetry analysis,TGA)等方法对Py-PEEK膜的结构进行表征。Py-PEEK50膜离子交换容量(ion exchange capacity,IEC)达到2.14 mmol/g时,其电导率达到4.14×10-2 S/cm,略低于Nafion117膜的5.67×10-2 S/cm,但其钒离子渗透率仅为Nafion117膜的1/7,表现出极好的离子选择性。在钒流电池测试中,Py-PEEK膜具有较低的钒离子渗透率,在不同电流密度下库伦效率均高于Nafion117膜,其中Py-PEEK70-1膜库伦效率在电流密度为40 mA/cm2时达到最大值80.3%,高于Nafion117膜的74.9%. 在自放电测试中,以Py-PEEK70-1膜组装的电池的自放电时间为106 h,高于Nafion117膜的66 h.

Title: Preparation of poly(ether ether ketone) anion exchange membranes with pyridinium groups and its property study on vanadium redox flow battery

Abstract: Poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) containing methyl substituents was synthesized from 3,3’,5,5’-tetramethyl-4,4’-dihydroxy-biphenyl as structural unit. Poly(ether ether ketone) anion exchange membranes with pyridinium groups (Py-PEEK membranes) were prepared by N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) bromide methylation and pyridine functionalization. The structure and morphology of Py-PEEK membrane were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), 1H NMR and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA). When the ion exchange capacity (IEC) reaches to 2.14 mmol/g, the conductivity of Py-PEEK50 membrane is 4.14×10-2 S/cm, which is lower than that of Nafion117 membrane (5.67×10-2 S/cm). However, its vanadium ions permeability is only 1/7 of that of Nafion117 membrane, which shows excellent ion selectivity. In the vanadium redox battery (VRB) test, the Py-PEEK membrane has lower vanadium ion permeability and higher Coulombic efficiency than Nafion117 membrane at different current densities, which is that the Py-PEEK70-1 membrane exhibits higher Coulombic efficiency of 80.3% compared with that of Nafion117 membrane (Coulombic efficiency of 74.9%) at current density of 40 mA/cm2. As a result, the self-discharge duration of the VRB cell with Py-PEEK70-1 membrane (106 h) is longer than that of VRB cell with Nafion117 membrane (66 h).
